Why is everyone around me not interested in Bhagavad Gita?

When you want to enjoy in the material world - family, friends, love and society - you become empowered by Maya - Krishna’s illusory energy. We all came to the material world to enjoy without God, and so, to fulfill our desires, God puts us in illusion, Therefore it should come as a surprise to no one that so few people are interested in spiritual life.

Rather than becoming annoyed at these people, we should count our blessings, if we ourselves have even an inkling of attraction to Krishna.

In Kaliyuga it is such a rare thing, that people turn towards Krishna. Even so-called religious people rarely show any real interest in God.

Take Christians and Muslims, for instance, when we ask them to surrender to Krishna, they balk, even to the point of calling us heathens, deviants and worshipers of false gods.

It is such an extremely rare thing that a person of Kaliyuga will pay any attention to the Personality of Godhead.

And when that desire is there in the heart - I want to enjoy my body and its culture -Maya will offer up a wealth of excuses, and convince you that you are doing the right thing.

It is so rare for a soul in Kaliyuga to turn towards God. When you ask why people are not interested in reading Bhagavad Gita, it is because they are too attached to bodily enjoyment, and they don’t want to give it up, not for anything. People simply like to be in maya.

To get an idea of how rare it is factually or a person to become a devotee of Krishna, listen to King Pariksit.

King Pariksit says:

"In this material world there are as many living entities as there are atoms. Among these living entities very few are human beings, and among them, few are interested in following religious principles.'

"O best of the brahmanas, Sukadeva Gosvami, out of many persons who follow religious principles, only a few desire liberation from this material world. Among many thousands who desire liberation, only one may actually achieve liberation, giving up his material attachment to society, friendship, love, country, home, wife and children. And among many thousands of such liberated persons, one who can understand the true meaning of liberation is very rare.'

"O great sage, among many millions who are liberated and perfect in knowledge of liberation, only one may become a devotee of Sri Narayana, (Krishna). Such devotees, who are fully peaceful, are extremely rare."
